Dear Law School:

Please change the registration system so that it better reflects the fact that some of us are in our last year of law school and would like to take the classes that we were trying to get into since last school year. Here are a few things that I’d like to highlight:

(1) If we’ve already had horrible priority last school year, please don’t decide to rub it in by giving us horrible priority this year. You could just shoot us in the face if you want to effectively make us feel pain.
(2) Giving great priority on the second day doesn’t change the fact that the most popular classes fill up in the first 2 hours of the first day. Maybe you could open one-third the seats for classes on the first day, one-third on the second day, and make the third day up for grabs. Then we can at least pretend like the system is meant to be fair when we get screwed anyways.
(3) Having the same priority for both semesters in a school year just amplifies the inherent inequalities in the system. Maybe I could console myself with the thought that if I can’t get into a popular class in the fall, I could have a shot in the spring. But really we’ll never know, because you decided that I need to be punished with crappy times for both semesters, on top of having to pay tens of thousands of dollars to professionals in Socratic torture methods.

I look forward to coming back this fall to continue our relationship, comprising of me bending over and you punishing me for trying to get an education.

Sincerely,

Chris

(Edit:  Feel free to add other reasons why registration burns your eyes out in the comments.)

  1. I’m trying to build an argument against the system as it currently runs too. I’d like to see it changed – in hopes of increasing fairness. As things stand, I’ve had a ridiculously poor schedule, and a ridiculously good one. I would have liked it better if it were balanced each time. My registration times this year were: 12, 2:30, and 1. Last year they were 3, 2:30, and 4.
